The kidney grille is the most argued-about part on the G8X. The CSL-style frame is how most owners settle it.

A full replacement for the factory kidney grille, built from autoclaved 2x2 pre-preg dry carbon fiber and shaped to the CSL's frame silhouette. It drops into the factory clip positions — the bumper does not come off.

Often bought with the Carbon Fiber Mirror Covers, which carry the same weave down the sides of the car.

This listing is the ACC version. If your car doesn't have the radar sensor, you need the non-ACC grille instead.

Which One Do I Need?

The two versions differ in the sensor opening behind the grille frame, and they are not interchangeable. There are three ways to tell which you have:

  • Look behind the grille. An ACC car has a radar module mounted centrally behind the kidney frame, usually visible as a flat rectangular housing. A non-ACC car has open space or a blanking panel.
  • Check how your cruise control behaves. If it holds a set distance from the car ahead and slows automatically in traffic, you have ACC.
  • Check your original window sticker or build sheet for Active Cruise Control.

Depending on market and model year, BMW also refers to this system as Active Cruise Control, ACC, or Traffic Jam Assistant, and the same front radar feeds Park Distance Control. If your car has any of those, this is your version.

The grille does not relocate or obstruct the sensor — it replaces the trim around it. Sensor recalibration is not normally required, but if your car has had a front-end alignment or windshield calibration performed recently, mention the grille change to your installer.

Why Autoclave Pre-Preg Dry Carbon Fiber

Pre-preg carbon arrives with the resin already impregnated into the weave at a controlled ratio, so no resin is added by hand during layup — that is what makes it dry carbon. Curing it under heat and pressure in an autoclave consolidates the laminate and drives out trapped air that would otherwise show as flaws in the finished surface. Other processes introduce the resin at the mold, so the ratio is set during layup rather than before it.

A grille frame is the single most-photographed part on this car and sits at eye level on approach. There is nowhere on it for a pinhole or a wandering weave line to hide.

Available Carbon Finishes

  • Gloss (Standard) — our standard high-gloss 2x2 twill weave
  • Matte Carbon — same weave, low-sheen matte finish
  • Forged Carbon — marbled, high-strength forged carbon pattern

Please note: Matte and Forged Carbon finishes are non-refundable once production has started.

Current Lead Time

Current estimated lead time is approximately 25-35 business days from order to ship.

ACC-equipped models only. The ACC and non-ACC versions are not interchangeable — confirm which you need using the guide above.

Please note that all products must be installed by a professional. Minor adjustments may be required during installation and are not indicative of defects. Additionally, please be aware that most carbon fiber products are handmade, resulting in slight variations between items.
